Hunter joined the MSdc program in autumn of 2010 after completing his first professional bachelor of architecture at Cal Poly Pomona in Southern California in Spring of 2009. He has worked in two architectural offices and upon graduation entered into the furniture industry as a CAD Specialist and private design consultant. His general interests include sustainability, computational/ parametric design, and stewarding architecture. His undergraduate thesis focused on how architecture could be used as a tool for stewardship in wet forest ecosystems. The project involved the creation of a tree culture where a group of research station pods attached to the large hosts and studied the effects of global warming on the epiphytes that give the forest life. His work is based on the biomimetic study of organisms found in extremely hostile environments who have taken a very specific evolutionary path after millions of years to become efficient survivors. He is also interested in anaerobically and aerobically biodegradable materials and the digital fabrication techniques that will inform their manufacturing.
Hunter has received awards in various competitions including Open Satellite's Super Model Competition, Surface Magazine's Thesis Guide 2009, and Architecture for Humanity's Safe Trestles.
After graduating from the UW in Winter, 2012, Hunter moved to San Diego, where he now works for T.Y. Lin in bridge design.
