About ...

Seemi is currently enrolled in the Master of Architecture (High Performance Building) program. Prior to joining the University of Washington, she pursued her Bachelor of Architecture at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi and practiced as an architect for three years after that.

Her undergraduate thesis research was based on the evolutionary notion of growth and how it responds very closely to social, environmental and economic constraints. The idea explored was of the city as an organism that grows and changes its form through different seasons. The eventual design project was a seasonal floating village for the the native Mohana fisherfolk which would both sustain their livelihood and restore the rich ecology of the lake.

Her professional work includes both built and under-construction projects in the dense metropolis of Karachi and remote areas of Pakistan. One project done for SOS Kinderdorf International is the SOS Childrens Village in Khairpur. It is focused on principles of sun orientation and barrel vault structures to mitigate the hot climate. One other project is the Baanhn Beli Community Development in the Thar Desert. The entire project is domed structures made of sandbag construction assembly to respond the hot arid climate.

At the University of Washington, her current research is on Big Data and the shared economy and how they affect the design and experience of cities. She is addressing questions of how data can be used to influence design decision making. Does the Internet of Things physically translate into architecture and urban design?
