About ...

Shakiba joined the DMG in September 2017 as a student in the MS in Design Computing program. Before joining the DMG, Shakiba earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree in Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. She has also obtained a Master's degree in Architectural technology from the University of Tehran.

During her graduate studies, she carried out several projects using computational design tools including digital optimization using evolutionary algorithms, structural analysis, building environmental modeling and parametric modeling.

Throughout her studies to complete her thesis, she was interested in the concept of agent-based modeling and its functionality in the field of biomimetic design, leading her to become more focused in biomimetics, and specifically in material-based design. She explored a new structural design method based on bone tissue material distribution using a topology optimization method.

More recently she has become interested in computational lighting design. She has started to work on a new workflow which links the environmental performance analysis and daylight availability for a specific urban block.
