Tangible User Interfaces > WiiView

About

Making use of off-the-shelf gaming hardware (a Wii Remote) which utilizes standard communications technology (Bluetooth), this project investigates a tangible control interface for navigating SketchUP models.

WiiView utilizes the Java Wii Remote Library, WiiremoteJ, to communicate with a SketchUp plugin written in Ruby. This program has two typical navigational modes, orbit and walkthrough. Traditionally, architectural reviewers utilize the mouse and these two modes to navigate digital models. However, this demands a high level of skill with SketchUp mouse navigation. Therefore, we aim to build a tangible interface with a Wii Remote to allow architectural reviewers to navigale digital models more easily.
