Schematic Design > Material Logic

About

Technological advancements have expanded the digital design process beyond a means of representation. Computation has become integral to the design process, allowing designers to effectively utilize vast amounts of information to define, assess, and ultimately produce physical artifacts. However, most digital design environments prioritize the creation of geometric information for the description of architectural form, over material considerations. For this reason, most digital models require further development and material design studies prior to production. Since architecture is a material based practice it raises the question, are the digital tools used by architects well suited for the current architectural practice?
