Architectural designers use a wide variety of reasoning and decision-making aids such as rules, prototypes and specific examples. In this paper we discuss how we have structured cases in a case-based design aid called ARCHIE to allow designers to navigate through the database in a flexible manner yet maintain links between general statements and specific examples.
